SPACE QUEST 3 REMAKE SHUT DOWN!

09-OCTOBER-2005 :: SQ3R Shut Down!

It is with great sadness that we announce that Space Quest 3 Remake has been shut down. We have been working on this fan game for about 2 years now, and it has been great to work with such a talented team such as this. We are so grateful for all your support and keeping our spirits high while creating this game with the utmost love and care. After Kings Quest IX being shut down, I never thought it would happen to us, but we all know all fan made games are in some degree of danger of being shut down.

Since this project is shut down, I am sure all of you would like to see what we've been doing behind the scenes. Concept art & 3R art can be found fellow, Thank you all for your support it's really been a blast. We've made good progress and Im just sad to see it all go, not to mention the trailer was almost finished. We don't want to fight Vivendi Universal because we don't stand a chance, so we have decided to simply let this one go. May Space Quest forever fill your memories. Please spread the word if you can. If you whish to talk about this event, please visit THIS AGDI thread.

Thank you all,-The Team

Please take a look at the postmorten artwork & demo on the main site. Cheers for everything guys. Please spread the word.

That's a shame.

I'm not surprised, considering that VU intends to sell the classics again.

KQ9 is a bigger tragedy though, working for 5 years and so close to release. I would think Infamous Adventures might be the next target, theres nothing left.  :(

*hug*

Let's hope that PO can negotiate a deal with VU, and that IA won't be targetted. This has been one sad week for adventure gamers everywhere.

It just pisses me off that these games are FREE but they still don't care. Just because they have the copyrights of the game in a safe somewhere, how do our fan games interfere with them? Its just like fan art, but in a different aspect.

Fan art is ALSO a violation of copyright, although it's often considered fair use.

The problem is the US copyright law: If a company does not actively enforce their copyrights, then they essentially lose it.

They can't lose it, if they have the paper work.

Sincerelly, I never liked very much the pass of VGA to 3D of this remake, but I was going to play it anyway. Im real sorry about this, when there was starting to be a nice and solid fangame community, Vivendi whipes it all out.

At least for me now it's official, those "witch-hunters" also known as VU can keep their compilations to themselves. I hope my words echo the feelings of hundred of fans.

P.S: I would love that all those cancelations were part of a strategy by the fangame authors to keep themselves safe until the releases of their games, but that does look kind of real, CRAP.

Apparantly someone reported us for violation of copyrights. Now who would go out of their way to report our project?

Well, with KQ9 I thought about the possibility of someone reporting the game to Vivendi, but maybe it was the repercussion the project had.

The only motivation I could see in an action like that would be revenge/hate or elimination of the "competence", the last one being a huge mountain of bollocks.

I just give up, looks like we can't beat the system, I've really given up on all fan games now. I just pray that we see SQ7, thats the only reason I started coming to all these different forums. Heck SQ7 was the thing that got me addicted to the internet.  :p

I'm just out of ideas, the only way we'll be able to make game is to make an original title.

I doubt someone reported anyone. No need to. Everytime someone asks for links (in this forum and others) a nice big hit-list is posted.

If anything, the underground projects should learn to stay silent. (Otherwise... what's the point of being underground.)

Thinking about it logically...

They had to say someone reported the project. In court they can't give the impression that they've known about it for some time... that would go back to Pidgeot's explanation that they didn't protect their copyrights.

Even if they say they've recently discovered the project, it would seem like someone weren't doing their jobs.

They're simply taking the 'path of least resistance': "A concerned fan informed us of illegal activities." or something like that.

I really hope that's the case. I can't really believe a fan would go to those lengths. Worse even... I hope it isn't a case of fan projects who received C&Ds that is ratting out the sister projects out of spite.

I haven't seen any accusations, but I figured I'd better set things straight before people start jumping to conclusions...no, we didn't report KQ9 nor SQ3 to them.

AGDI would be the last people on earth that would think to report our games, their the ones that inspire us all.

That's quite a speculation, Frode. I wouldn't bet on it but it's not a bad theory.

What about kq3vga wouldnt that be another project that might get closed? Or a project in dire danger of getting closed?
